Why the Best Decisions Don't Always Seem the Hardest
It is a common belief that the best decisions are often the hardest to make. However, my experience tells me that this is not always the case. From time to time, yes, the best decisions can be difficult, but not for every situation. Many times, the best decisions are the easiest, and that's because they are the best.

Examples of Easy but Effective Decisions
Let's consider two friends, A and B, who share similar backgrounds and studious capabilities. Friend A is highly ambitious and wants to pursue engineering from an IIT, followed by an MBA from an IIM, and then establish a career in the corporate sector. On the other hand, friend B thinks he won't do well in engineering and opts for a BA in a local college.
A faces multiple challenges: he fails to get into an IIT, enrolls in a private engineering college, graduates, and then fails the CAT (Common Admission Test) for IIMs. As a result, he joins a private company as an engineer and ends up dissatisfied with his career. In contrast, B makes a decision to compete for a state civil services exam after completing his BA. He clears the exam on the first attempt and becomes a PCS (Preparedness, Commands, and Services) officer, achieving his career goals.
Decision-Making: Weighing Alternatives and Abilities
Effective decision-making is about weighing all available alternatives and choosing the best option that aligns with your abilities and competencies. Sometimes, the best decision is simply the one that pushes you out of your comfort zone while aligning well with your skills.
One of the reasons we find it difficult to take good decisions is that most people fail to evaluate all the available options and alternatives. It is also often because mental readiness and the ability to implement such decisions without fear are lacking. Understanding the psychological aspects of decision-making, risk considerations, and having the resolve to carry out a decision regardless of fear can significantly improve the decision-making process.
The Role of Perservation in Decision-Making
Is it true that all good decisions are hard? Not necessarily. With practice and learning, decision-making can indeed become easier. However, it is important to recognize that making good choices often involves taking risks and stepping out of one's comfort zone. Yet, this should not discourage you. As the Bible states in James 1:12, 'Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial, because having stood the test that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.' Hence, perseverance and determination play a crucial role in making the best decisions.
