Why are People Becoming So Arrogant Nowadays?
I’m an introvert and I’m the opposite of arrogant. I often wonder why everyday people are so arrogant and believe that a simple picture of them doing regular things is worthy of worldwide attention. It's a phenomenon that's caught my eye, and I’ve decided to explore the underlying reasons behind this growing arrogance in our society.
Arrogance as a Display of Self-Protection
That’s called PRIDE. It's actually an expansion of the human primal instinct of fear. Arrogance often arises when people feel superior because they fear lacking something. This fear leads to a desire for more of the good things in life. People tend to feel entitled to more than what they have or what they believe is rightfully theirs. This entitlement can manifest as a lack of gratitude and selfishness.
Consequences of Arrogance
Arrogant individuals can become ungrateful and selfish. They often view life as a competition and feel jealous of others who seem to have more than they do. Arrogance can also lead to an inability to reflect on one's own mistakes, and a refusal to acknowledge errors to protect their ego. They see others as less worthy and may perceive their blessings as undeserved.
Manifestations of Arrogance
Some synonyms of arrogance include haughty, superior, supercilious, and pretentious. We're witnessing people becoming increasingly haughty, supercilious, or pretentious nowadays. These terms describe people who act with high self-importance and disdain towards others. They often blame others for their mistakes, while confident people accept their own shortcomings.
Distinguishing Arrogance from Confidence
Confident individuals exhibit different behaviors compared to arrogant ones. Confident people:
Listen more than they speak, whereas arrogant people speak more than they listen. Are willing to admit being wrong and don’t feel threatened by it, which is the opposite of arrogant people who are scared of being seen as wrong.Understanding the Sin of Pride
Pride is one of humanity’s greatest sins. It manifests when people see themselves as more important than others or others as less worthy. A lack of empathy can drive this arrogance. If people were wiser, they would understand that all humans are created equally, each with their unique gifts. They should accept what they have in this short lifespan and make an effort to do good both for themselves and others without the need to boast or be selfish.
Breaking the Cycle of Arrogance
To break the cycle of arrogance, individuals need to engage in self-reflection and empathy. They should work on improving themselves and helping others without the expectation of taking credit. Understanding that arrogance stems from a fear of lacking something can help individuals address the root cause and develop a more balanced perspective on life.
