Why Moving to the Countryside Can Make Your Life Better
Have you ever had an urge to leave your city and live somewhere in the countryside surrounded by rivers and magnificent mountains? As soon as my employer closed our offices and sent us off permanently remote in 2020, I decided to make that dream a reality. I now consider my backyard much more appealing than the bustling urban areas I once called home. This journey from the city to the countryside highlights several reasons why rural living can significantly enhance your quality of life.
My Journey from the City to the Countryside
Growing up in New York City, I never could stand the place. The hustle, the noise, and the constant anxiety were too much for my taste. At age twenty, I moved to Alaska, a place where the simplicity of life and the natural beauty of the countryside truly captivated me. Ever since, this state has been my home, and the rural life it offers has deeply enriched my existence.
Adventures in Rural Living from Around the World
I was born in a village in Haryana, India, and the simple life and rich cultural heritage of my hometown still hold a special place in my heart. Despite the allure of city life, the quiet and peaceful atmosphere of the village continues to attract me. Festivals, traditions, and the strong sense of community make village life especially appealing. If given the chance, I would love to spend my life back in that village once again.
Others have also had similar experiences. Despite being unable to sell my home due to the economic downturn, I wished I had moved back to where I grew up. However, being unable to do so, I am now even happier with my current situation. This story emphasizes the personal and emotional ties that can keep families connected to their roots, even in challenging economic times.
Adapting to Urban and Rural Living
Some people have thought and actually left their cities to try rural living, only to return. This occurred with me. I resided in New Orleans and Seattle, but I ultimately came back to my hometown outside of Cleveland. While I dislike the snow and slush, there is a certain charm in the changing seasons and retrieving cherished memories from my past.
There are also those who have no inclination to leave their cities. For example, someone might say, 'Nah… I love where I live. The crowded hustle and bustle might be a bit much, but the great weather and proximity to the beach make it a worthwhile place to stay for the rest of my life.'
Finding Comfort in Familiarity
Ultimately, the value of home and the comfort in familiarity can play a significant role in one’s decision to stay or move. Home is where you hang your hat, and the bonds formed in a familiar place can be irreplaceable. For military personnel, who often face the challenge of adapting to new environments, the importance of this concept is even greater. They learn to make even the worst living situations work out for the best, and open their minds to possibilities that others might overlook.
Despite the challenges, the tranquility of the countryside often proves to be a refreshing and fulfilling change of pace, and it can be a significant contributor to one’s overall well-being. Whether you are born into the countryside or decide to move there later in life, the natural beauty, simple living, and strong community can significantly enhance your quality of life.
