I chose the hospitality industry because I believe in its immense potential to provide exceptional experiences, despite challenges such as dealing with guest complaints. A Personal Journey in Hospitality

My interest in hospitality began with my brothers and sisters, all of whom pursued careers in medicine. Being the youngest, farming and soldiering were the only other options. Over time, I found my passion lying in the business aspect of patient care, but never abandoned my options to return to my agricultural roots. I have ancestral land in Punjab and agricultural land in Louisiana.

Ancestral Traditions and Responsibilities

In my culture, there are certain traditions and responsibilities that come with being a boy. I take pride in having a large piece of land, with the belief that one must have a "Lambardar" status to truly lay claim to it. This involves having a Jeep, a double barrel gun, a revolver, and a German Shepherd or Alsatian. The song "Heeray Heeray Akhay" by Surrinder Kaur resonates deeply with me, as it speaks to the concept of being a Lambardar.

I am responsible for growing organic food on more than half of my land, and the rest is left wild. I also have a few horses that my team is trying to train as race horses. This endeavor, while not profitable, provides a great deal of personal satisfaction and fun. The land is also valuable to me as it allows me to claim the title of a "Lambardar," even in a place like the United States where such titles have no formal value. My family and friends often do not understand the significance I place on this tradition.

The Reward of Personal Fulfillment

Working 70 hours a week for 44 weeks a year can be demanding, but I find immense pleasure and fun in my work. This includes spending time with my wife, who I admire and enjoy tremendously, despite our long-term marriage.

While the land and associated resources are a significant asset, they provide me with a sense of personal fulfillment and tradition. My sons, however, often resist the idea of this as "dowry" for my daughter, as it represents financial independence and a lifestyle I have chosen.
