VIT Counselling Experience: Online vs. In-person
VIT (Vellore Institutes of Technology) conducts its admissions through the VITEEE (Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination) every year. Online versus In-person Counselling
For the upcoming VITEEE 2023 counselling, candidates will be able to participate online. This option is particularly advantageous for those who may face geographic or logistical challenges. However, concerns have been raised regarding the implementation of the online system, especially given the time constraints and the requirement to pay for seat allocation.
In the past, the in-person counselling was characterized by a mix of regimented and chaotic experiences. According to numerous reports, candidates faced issues such as poor preparation, lack of clear information, and long queues in sweltering conditions. Phase 1 and Future Planning
Phase 1 of VITEEE counselling has already concluded. Phase 2 is set to begin on June 30th, 2023. During this phase, candidates will be able to fill up to 25 choices of branches, campuses, and categories based on the available seats. Once a candidate has chosen their preferences, they are required to pay a fee to secure their seat allocation. Failure to pay within the given time frame will result in the cancellation of their selection.
Past Counselling Experience
From the perspective of a parent who attended the in-person VIT counselling in Bhopal, the experience was described as "horrible." Despite advance information being provided, the organization suffered from a lack of preparation. The process was marked by long waits, lack of facilities such as water and snacks, and inadequate information dissemination. Additionally, there were issues with the cancellation fees, which were significantly higher than those of other institutions.
Specific Issues Raised
No Preparation for Candidates: Advance information was given, but the organization was unprepared for the large number of attendees, leading to logistical disasters. People were made to stand for hours in the sun, with no water or snacks available. Lack of Information: Vital information about seats, categories, and other crucial details was only available inside the counselling room during limited time. Photographs of the screen were not permitted to share information with candidates at home. Physical and Financial Consequences: Due to mismanagement, several applicants had to cancel flights and book tickets at higher rates, extend their hotel stays, and even adjust their work leave. Additionally, the cancellation fee of ?12,000 was seen as excessively high. Technical Issues: Despite claims of world-class infrastructure, technical problems were cited as obstacles to sharing information outside the counselling room. Limited Resources: The physical location was described as being 60km outside Bhopal and lacking adequate connectivity, leading to stranded parents and the need for premium taxi services.Comparison and Conclusion
