Unfulfilled Desires: The Things We Love But Will Never Try

Every person has a list of things they love but will never try in their lifetime. These impulses, driven by personal preferences, societal norms, or simple fear, create a unique tapestry of experiences that we yearn for yet may never fully realize. This article explores some of the unfulfilled desires that resonate with many, including tattoos, committed relationships, and blood donation.

Tattoos: A Permanent Art

Tattoos stand out as a fascinating case where the allure is far more intense than the fear. From a young age, the idea of a tattoo has captivated many, including myself. The attraction lies in the artistic expression and the permanent display of a personal choice on our skin. However, the thought of a needle piercing through my body sends a shiver down my spine, different from that of a tattoo artist's professional and controlled procedure. My aversion to invasive procedures prevents me from ever trying it. If I were to get a tattoo, it would be the powerful symbol of a Phoenix, rising from the ashes.

Commitment: A Sincere but Frightening Love

Loving a person deeply often means being committed to them, a journey that can be daunting and challenging. I have always believed in love, a profound emotion that defines much of our existence. However, my first and last proper relationship, which ended in December 2016, left a lasting mark of fear and reluctance. The experience of getting hurt deeply made me hesitant to ever embark on another committed relationship. Although I still believe in love, the fear of being hurt again has curtailed my willingness to take that leap of faith.
I now understand that some experiments in life should be treaded carefully, for the sake of our emotional well-being.

Blood Donation: A Heroic Act

Blood donation is an act that can save lives, yet it’s a task I have never had the opportunity to accomplish. Before losing my thyroid, I had blood drawn twice a year, an experience that has turned into an annual ritual rather than a thrilling adventure. Drawing blood itself isn't inherently frightening, but the process of being a valuable part of the medical community through blood donation brings a sense of satisfaction and heroism. However, my current health condition and the medications I take interfere with this goal. Baffling as it may seem, there are many moments when I yearn to do something as impactful and selfless as being a blood donor.

Embracing the Unknown: Adventures and Learning Curves

Adventures and learning curves are an integral part of life. However, as we age, certain pursuits become more challenging, either due to physical limitations or financial constraints. For instance, sky diving, an exhilarating experience, is now beyond my current physical capabilities, making it a dream unachievable. Similarly, encountering new experiences like sex, even if it's guided under expert supervision, presents its own set of fears and uncertainties. It’s humbling to realize that with each year, some desires become less viable, but for others, the cost or risk is simply too high.
Yet, many believe that with enough money and support, we can tackle these fears and desires head-on. Money, in many cases, can be a bridge to new experiences, yet it’s not always a solution to overcoming our deepest fears. It’s about accepting the limitations and finding new ways to fulfill our desires even in the midst of them.

Conclusion

There are countless things we love but will never try, driven by a mix of fear, limitations, and personal values. These unfulfilled desires form an important part of our lives, shaping our thoughts and actions. Whether it’s a tattoo, a committed relationship, or blood donation, embracing these desires can teach us valuable lessons about ourselves and the world we live in. It's in the process of facing our fears and understanding our limits that we grow and find new ways to live life to the fullest.
