Understanding the Special Round in CATS Special Allotment (CSAB) Process

I have received several inquiries about the admission process for JosAA (Counselling and Admission toRAFTSpecial Allotment (CSAB)). What is the CSAB Special Round?

After the completion of the 7th or 6th round of counselling in JosAA, you have an opportunity to participate in the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) special round. This is a unique chance for eligible students to secure a seat in National Institutes of Technology (NITs), IIITs, or GFTIs.

Key Points

IITs do not participate in the CSAB special round. Seats available for allocation are from NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. You will need to pay a fee of 35,000 INR to participate. This fee will be reimbursed as part of the college fees upon admission. In the CSAB special round, once a seat is allotted, you cannot re-leave it; otherwise, the entire fee will not be refunded.

Comparison with JosAA

While JosAA is the main counseling process, CSAB special round takes place after all seats have been allocated in JosAA. It aims to offer an additional chance for those who might have missed out on their top choices in the primary rounds. After the 6th round, if any student leaves their seat or upgrades to a better branch, their seat becomes available during the special round.

Entering the Special Round

The special round is held by the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) for any unallotted seats. Seats are allocated based on the general rank, and importantly, you cannot secure a seat in any IIT during this round.
