Tikling Fights: Memorable Party Moments and Family Fun

Parties used to be a regular activity in my childhood, but in a uniquely different way. Growing up with cousins, the family members were the primary audience for birthday celebrations. Dad wanted our cousins to have fun with other kids, so family gatherings like birthday parties for us cousins were the norm. However, my cousins didn't share my enthusiasm for tickling.

The Need for Change: From Family Parties to Shared Birthdays

My cousins have always been less inclined towards physical contact and prefer hugs or shoulder pats. As the youngest grandchild, about 3 to 4 years younger than them, they eventually grew too old for such celebrations. Hence, Dad and I decided to have our shared birthday every year just the two of us. Tickling is a natural part of our bonding, and it doesn’t have to be a party or a special reason.

Tickling Battles and Secret Spots

Ever since Dad taught me that I'm exceptionally ticklish, especially my upper ribs, behind my knees, and of course, my feet, tickling matches have been a regular affair in our household. Countless wrestling matches ended up with me pinned down, crying in laughter, and begging him to stop. Over the years, I’ve struggled to find Dad's tickle spots. While I can get some reaction if my fingers are cold and touch his neck, I couldn't make him genuinely ticklish there.

Every tickle fight with Dad, no matter how hard I try, results in my defeat. I often wonder if he's cheating, but it's more likely my inexperience. As a younger kid, I suffered significantly, especially with my upper ribs and feet. This frustration often led me to lose every tickle fight, though I sometimes suspect a strategic advantage from Dad.

House Parties and Memories

House parties, on the other hand, present a different set of memories. Despite not being big on parties, when I look back fondly, I realize that they were indeed special events. For instance, my three older sisters, all one year apart, often had tickle fights and water balloon battles. These usually happened after everyone had left, and the kids were more relaxed and playful.

A Shocking Tickling Frenzy

One memorable house party experience comes to mind, which starkly highlights the intensity of tickling. When my sister was 14, she hosted a slumber party with five friends. The guests played a game where they took turns tickling a single girl. After just a few minutes, this girl couldn't handle it anymore and started begging her friends to stop. Eventually, the girls decided it was my turn, and I, being 16 at the time, was overwhelmed by the experience. They set a timer for six minutes, given that there were six girls participating, and it was truly uncomfortable for me.

These experiences remind me of the joy and playfulness that can ensue during family gatherings and house parties, often turning into memorable events filled with laughter and sometimes tears.
