The Power of Forgiveness and the Impact of Anger
In this personal blog, I will share a story that highlights the transformative power of forgiveness and the negative impact of anger on our lives. It involves a profound lesson from a mentor, a confrontation with societal injustice, and the renewed perspective that comes with understanding emotion.
The Incident
It was a pitch-black night, with not a single star visible as the municipal corporation had cut off the electricity. Yet, the night was filled with warmth and comfort. I was enjoying a cup of Bourn Vita with my grandmother, Nani, while she entertained me with stories."
Story of Keshav and the King
The story began with my guruji explaining the concept of Krodha (anger) and its effects on our life. He then shared the tale of Keshav, a kind and loving individual who faced extreme injustice from a biased king. The story began on the Himalayan royal court where a heated argument between the royal families led to the king leaving in a rage. This ultimately resulted in an incident reported as a hit-and-run that was a misunderstanding.
The queen, in her revenge, started a game of treasure hunt, further angering the king. The king's fury led him to strip a foreigner, Keshav, of his dignity and lash him 200 times. The king's unjust decision was met with much anger, and in a moment of realization, Keshav's past injustices were revealed by the king himself. This revelation led to a profound discussion on emotions and their impact.
Lessons from Keshav's Story
Upon hearing the story, I was inspired by Keshav's noble act and the heavy consequences he faced. However, my curiosity deepened when I learned that Keshav was actually in prison. My guruji, who was also the king, explained his own role in Keshav's punishment. This revelation was shocking and enlightening.
My guruji delved into the psychological effects of anger, explaining how it can impair judgment, increase blood pressure, and disrupt relationships. He discussed the scientific and emotional aspects of anger and the importance of utilizing it creatively rather than suppressing it.
Ways to Manage and Utilize Anger
1. **Walk Away**: Remove yourself from the situation until you are calm.
2. **Recognize and Accept Emotion**: Understand your feelings and find a creative way to use them.
3. **Imagining the Worst Scenario**: Seeing the worst can often make your current situation seem trivial.
4. **Exercise and Yoga**: Physical activity helps release extra energy.
My guruji further emphasized the importance of seeking forgiveness and how it can help control anger, not just towards specific individuals but towards the entire universe.
Reflecting on the Lessons
After our discussion, Virram and I realized that such intense emotions can be both destructive and constructive. While anger can impair judgment, it can also serve as a powerful motivator for positive change, provided it is managed and utilized wisely.
We ended our session with Virram's determination to work on controlling his anger and expressed our hope for more lessons tomorrow. Reflecting on Keshav's story, we concluded that even in the face of injustice, one can maintain kindness and empathy.
Thank you for reading. This story is inspired by a true event, and I dedicate this blog to Keshav's noble character. His story serves as a profound reminder of the power of forgiveness and the destructive nature of anger.
I hope this story motivates you to reflect on your own emotions and the impact they have on your life.
Thank you once again for your support and love.
I believe in each and every one of you.
