The Path to Survival Preparedness: What Makes You a Survivalist
Whenever disaster strikes, it's often the preparedness and readiness to act that make the difference. I identify myself as a survivalist not because of any belief in zombie attacks, but rather, because I am prepared for real-world disasters such as hurricanes, blizzards, and power outages. My journey as a survivalist is more about building resilience and readiness for the inevitable.
What Makes Me a Survivalist?
What truly sets me apart as a survivalist is my belief in self-reliance and preparedness. In today's world, where government and infrastructure can be unpredictable, I have adopted a mindset where personal preparedness is essential. Whether it's a coronal mass ejection, a deadly pandemic, or an unpredictable historical pandemic, I aim to be ready for any eventuality.
My personal preparedness journey has involved extensive training in various survival methods. This includes learning how to:
Prepare and preserve food Maintain and create shelters Generate power and store energy Purify and distribute water Defend myself and others Provide basic medical care Secure weapons and ammunition Gather and store seeds for planting Acquire and trade valuable resourcesMoreover, I have established multiple locations for shelter, including underground bunkers and above-ground survival stations. I have also stockpiled a range of essential items for trade, such as non-perishable food, ammunition, and medically important supplies. This includes a substantial cache of salt and other spices, medical supplies, and valuable metals.
Professional and Personal Responsibilities
Despite my extensive survival training, I maintain a normal lifestyle. I am a career railroader, and I have a fulfilling family life as well. My spouse is a medical doctor, and she fully supports our survival preparations. Together, we strive to ensure that both of our skills and resources are ready for any potential scenario.
Our hope is that we will never need to use these preparations, but we remain vigilant and ready. The cost of our survival preparations, while significant, is relative to the peace of mind they provide.
The Path to Becoming a Survivalist
Anyone can take steps to become a survivalist. The key is continual learning and resource collection. Here are some essential practices:
Learning how to grow your own food Amassing hunting and fishing skills Acquiring basic first aid knowledge Developing skills in animal husbandry and livestock management Practicing self-defense techniques Collecting essential resources like weapons, seeds, fuel, and first aid equipmentBy engaging in these activities, you can build your own path to preparedness and resilience. The journey to becoming a survivalist is not just about physical survival; it's about building a foundation of self-reliance and confidence.
