The Meaning of Life: A Dialogue Between Atheists and Theists
A theist's perspective:
Why are you always asking me these questions about atheists? It frustrates me! You're trying to make us look bad, and it's not a very nice thing to do. It's not like you care, and you just seem to have a problem with my beliefs.
It's like the religious fanatics and MAGAs out there always need someone to tell them what to think. Instead, you should find your own meaning in life. Don't let others dictate your life's path.
Why do you think life has any intrinsic meaning? Life is something that must be made sense of by conscious beings. Without a purpose, life could be seen as just 'a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.'
But don't listen to theists who claim that life has no purpose without the presence of a higher power. I believe that we have the power to create our own purpose in life. Some people find more meaning in their lives than others, but the true meaning of life is something we must create for ourselves. Happiness and fulfillment can be achieved without the shackles of religion.
Someatheists might say various things. They might not believe in gods and that's all they have in common. But there are also nihilists, who, although they might not believe in a higher purpose, have philosophical perspectives that can greatly inform one's outlook on life.
I identify as a nihilist, and I believe that life has no objective meaning. But we do experience subjective meanings, which are the only kinds of meaning we can ever truly encounter. If you disagree, please speak up. I haven't heard your perspective yet.
Some might argue that life has no cosmic purpose, but what we do today matters. There is no greater purpose, but we can still find personal and meaningful goals in life. What do theists think about the purpose of life?
Theists often believe that life has a purpose that is intertwined with a higher power. Some might argue that without God, life has no meaning. However, I have found a better use for my life than to exist solely for the sake of a deity.
Whatever you believe, reality is the only constant. We should enjoy the journey of life, as it is the only one we will have. There is so much to see, do, and experience without being constrained by religious beliefs.
The meaning of life is a personal journey, and everyone has a different perspective.
