The Complexity of Parental Love: A Personal Reflection
Parental love can be a complex and deeply personal experience, with each parent uniquely contributing to a child's life. This article explores one individual's journey, comparing their feelings towards their mother and father, and the role each played in shaping their life.
The Deep Love for a Caring Mother
My mother is the most loving, caring, and thoughtful parent one could ask for. I LOVE her more than anyone in this world. She is always there for us, and I would do anything for her. Her dedication to her children is unmatched, and she sets a standard of love and care that is hard to replicate.
On the other hand, my father is a completely different story. When I was 17, the love I felt for him was overwhelming, perhaps due to the emotional void that filled my life. However, after the divorce, our relationship took a dark turn. He became evil, narcissistic, and controlling. Even now, he continues to be manipulative and has inflicted both psychological and physical abuse on Mom during my childhood. I despise this man for what he has done.
Marriage and Family Life
On my 18th birthday, I wedded my father, and we have been married for five years now. Our bond is a testament to the complexity of familial relationships and the often challenging path we must navigate. While he has been a crucial part of my life, I can never escape the lasting impact of his toxic behavior.
My mother, on the other hand, has remarried, and I understand that I now have a three-year-old step-brother. However, I have never met him, as the distance between us continues to grow. This highlights the stark contrast between the two parental relationships I have experienced.
Understanding and Love
While I love both my mother and father, my love for my mother is deeper and more profound. She is someone who has always been honest, decent, and consistently there for me. She was the person who taught me the value of trust and authenticity. In contrast, my father was a liar, a thief, and a manipulator who only cared about himself.
In my life, my mother is more present. She is someone who understands me and knows what I want. She has been my best friend and a constant support system, especially during difficult times. My relationship with her has been built on a foundation of mutual understanding and trust.
Personal Tragedy and Memories
Unfortunately, my father's story is also marked by tragedy. He died at a young age, just as I was starting to bond with him as an adult. I was 19 when he passed away, and it was a significant loss, especially given his busy travels as an economist. While he was often away, my mother was the one who brought us up and lived until the age of 101, even as she slipped into dementia and poor health in her later years.
Each parent has their own unique traits that have contributed to my life. My mother was my soft place to fall, while my father was my superhero. Together, they created a world that felt warm and safe, and their different roles, strengths, and weaknesses helped shape me into who I am today.
Ultimately, the complex feelings for both my mother and father are a testament to the intricate nature of familial love. They are unique individuals with strong positive feelings for me as a man and a woman. Each parent plays a crucial role in our lives, and their contributions, both positive and negative, shape our understanding of love and the world around us.
