What Are Some Things You Save for Only Sundays?
Time! Yes, you read it right. After children have settled into their lives, time is not a luxury for us anymore. But before that, in the early 1990s, spending 1-2 hours entirely for ourselves was a big luxury. With a little planning, however, we could afford that luxury. In the early years of my service, I would keep some specialized work which could not be delegated to domestic help like washing delicate clothes, starching cotton sarees, and changing bed sheets for Sundays. This routine became very mechanical and lifeless within two years. Working in the office for six days and then being busy with domestic chores on Sundays made both of us very tired. So, we changed our routine.
Planning and Early Morning Walks
We would get up half an hour early on weekdays and finish off those jobs on weekdays itself. On Sundays, when people would laze around and wake up late in the morning, and start everything late, we did the contrary. We would wake up as usual at 5 am. The time till kids wake up was fully in our hands. We utilized this time for ‘lazy walking’ in places where there is scenic beauty and we had our privacy. We were in Nagpur then. These places were not any extra-ordinary tourist places. They were parks and lakes which would be crowded in the evenings and deserted in the early hours in the morning.
Exploring Natural Beauty
Some of these places were:
Ambazari Park: This was the best road to walk while chatting. The lake you see is Ambazari lake. After walking for sometime, we would sit on the lake side and enjoy the scenic beauty. Seminary Hills: Though not much of scenic beauty, the calmness and serene atmosphere in early hours was really blissful. Walking on this railway track for the mini train was my favorite thing. See how peaceful the place is. Japanese Garden: When we were in Nagpur, the Japanese garden was newly developed. We would walk in those gardens too. But sometimes the gates were not open.Leisure Activities and Breakfast Packing
Sometimes, while returning from our walks, we would pack some breakfast for our kids and ourselves. These long walks gave us many opportunities:
Refresh the mind after a week-long office work and talk about everything we want without tension that 'time is up'.Conclusion
This is how I saved my time for Sundays. By waking up early, planning the time in advance, and embracing leisure activities, we could make the best use of our Sundays. Whether it’s exploring natural beauty or simply enjoying a peaceful morning walk, Sundays became a time for us to recharge and reconnect with each other and the world around us.
