Reflections on My Future: A Journey to Simplicity and Purpose

Prepared for Google's high standards, this article explores deep personal insights and reflections on the future, focusing on minimalist lifestyle and future planning through the lens of an individual nearing their 70s.

Introduction: A Life Fully Lived

Every journey, whether meaningful or challenging, begins within one's own mind. Today, I take a moment to look into the mirror of my future, reflecting on my aspirations for the next three years. As someone who has adhered to the laws and commandments of my faith, my goal is to achieve a state of spiritual and physical health, reflecting on the importance of service and purpose in every stage of life.

Minimalism: A Path to Simplicity

For the past 32 years, I have embraced a minimalist lifestyle, a philosophy that has profoundly impacted my daily life. The drive to minimize my possessions and focus on what truly matters has not wavered. In the years to come, I aim to elevate this practice to a new level. By 2025, my goal is to fit all of my belongings into a single suitcase, excluding books, a significant milestone in my minimalist journey. This shift is not just about reducing clutter; it’s about embracing a more intentional and mindful approach to life.

Facing the Uncertain Future

As I approach my 70th birthday, life can seem uncertain. The possibility of losing my independence or being homeless in the woods looms, and comfortable retirement seems like a distant dream. However, I take solace in the understanding that each day is an opportunity to improve and that any loss of comfort is outweighed by the promise of tomorrow.

Health and Resilience

Chronic fatigue poses a daily challenge, yet I continue to work and challenge myself. With every effort, I hope to gain the strength necessary to persevere. The ultimate goal is to remain healthy both physically and mentally, cherishing the memories of a fulfilling life lived with purpose. Despite the difficulties, the support of my faith and community is a steadfast anchor.

Wishing to Walk Again

Life was dramatically altered when a brain injury left me unable to walk, a challenge I have faced for about 20 years. Yet, this obstacle has only fueled my determination to find a solution. I spend my days working and pushing myself, including practicing standing at a mounted bar in my home. My vision for the future extends far beyond my own journey; I aspire to run a program that will enhance the quality of life for others, specifically those with injuries, by sharing knowledge and skills that can improve their situations significantly.

Conclusion: Service and Impact

While I may not be able to directly influence the lives of residents in Tanzania, my hope is that my program will positively impact every individual who comes into contact with it, providing them with the tools to live more fulfilling lives. The journey to a simpler, purpose-driven existence is a continuing process, and I am committed to living each day with gratitude and hope for a brighter tomorrow.
