Praying for Others in a Spirit of Oneness with God
When we pray for others, our intentions are often driven by the hope of bringing more people to Christ, and for those who have backslidden, we ask for grace and mercy. We also pray for those who are blind to the word and Christ, seeking to give them insight. But in the eyes of God, we are all one part of a supreme soul. Therefore, we might not ask for others or for ourselves, as all is a part of God. Instead, our focus is on awakening awareness within ourselves and others.
A Call to Prayer and Remembrance
One of the prayers that comes to my mind is the list of names from my parish. As a 70-year-old, I maintain a list that hangs beside my front door. The names are a constant reminder to pray and reflect. The list is not just a formality but a way to tangibly engage in prayer for the spiritual welfare of individuals.
For my daughter and her four adopted boys with mental disabilities, I pray with love and compassion. I also pray for her ex-husband, recognizing the pain and abuse he may still be experiencing. These prayers come not as a duty, but as a divine inspiration that brings comfort and solace. Whether I am aware of these individuals or not, every name on that list represents a person needing guidance and support.
The Final Judgment and Prayers for Redemption
The approach of the Final Judgment is a solemn reminder that the time is coming. The Bible speaks of this event deeply, and the warning signs Jesus has described are increasingly manifest in the news. For those who are yet to accept Jesus Christ into their hearts and lives, I pray fervently that they might do so before it is too late. The urgency of this prayer is heightened by the realization that the end times are closer than ever imagined.
Prayers for Awareness and Acceptance
Prayer is a continuous journey, not limited to specific times. I engage in prayers like the Psalms, which are accessible to everyone. The St. Patrick’s Breastplate is another ancient prayer, especially useful during times of crisis. Recently, after a spiritual pilgrimage to the places of saints in caves and on islands in Scotland, I read this prayer with renewed zeal. You can find the text of the prayer on YouTube if you wish to partake in it.
The essence of these prayers is to seek a spiritual oneness with God. By praying for others, we are not only seeking their redemption but also recognizing our interconnectedness. In doing so, we bring ourselves and others closer to the ultimate truth that we are all part of a greater whole.
