The Transition from AIIMS to Medical School
Before delving into the details of what happens after clearing the AIIMS examinations, it's important to note that there is no standalone exam for AIIMS. This is due to the merger of AIIMS with the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). Since 2013, candidates who wish to pursue a career in medicine must register for the NEET exam. Therefore, if you are curious about the process of clearing the AIIMS exam, the process is now streamlined through NEET.
Once you have successfully cleared the NEET examination, your journey into becoming a doctor has just begun. The road ahead is demanding but fulfilling. After the NEET examination, you will have to go through a counselling process to select the medical college where you will undergo your undergraduate medical education. The journey spans 5.5 years. After this rigorous period, you will have earned the coveted title of Doctor.
From Gratification to Hard Work
The feeling of clearing the AIIMS examinations was undeniably exhilarating. Post the announcement of the results, I felt as if I was on top of the world. This period of success is often overshadowed by the intense work that lies ahead. After the NEET examination, the hard work starts in earnest for around 5.5 years of medical education.
Transitioning to Medical School
Once the counselling process is complete and you have been allocated a medical college, the journey commences in earnest. My journey took me to Jodhpur, where I found myself surrounded by familiar faces—my coaching friends and fellow students who shared similar aspirations.
Life at college is a whirlwind. After a two-year gap between high school and college, the abrupt return to an academic environment often brings a sense of nostalgia. During my time as a medical student, I found myself rekindling the fun of extracurricular activities. These activities were plentiful; almost every month brought new events and opportunities. Every college seems to have a vibrant calendar of events, and our college was no different.
Annual Functions and College Life
It's not just about the academic challenges; college life is also about the social and cultural immersion. As I recall, even today, after answering this question, an annual function was taking place in our college. These events are important because they provide a platform for students to come together, celebrate achievements, and create memories that last a lifetime.
Life at a medical college is a blend of rigorous academic work and extracurricular activities. The transition from the NEET examination to the medical school is a significant phase in a student's life, marking the beginning of their journey towards becoming a doctor. It's a period of hard work, dedication, and the constant pursuit of knowledge and skills that will shape a future in medicine.
