Overcoming the Comfort Zone: The Real Reason We Don’t Want More

Why Don’t I Want Better for Myself?

Hi Everyone!

After being a silent reader for many times, I finally decided to share my thoughts today. While I hope to stay active, I might become less active in the future. Please bear with me.

Now, let's dive into the question. Here's my perspective: as human beings, we are naturally drawn to the comfort zone. Stepping out of that zone often feels like a risk, mainly because we're not always good at prioritizing. As a result, the consequences of this tendency are visible. While it's universally acknowledged that personal growth is beneficial, what stops us from pursuing it? This, too, is subjective and varies from person to person. However, in my view, it is incredibly challenging to break away from the comfort zone and bear the pain of self-improvement.

Just as a diamond only sparkles after it's been cut, we often avoid the 'pain' of self-improvement. But if you can't handle the pain, you shouldn't complain that you're not achieving your goals. If everyone had the inborn tendency to continuously improve, it would be challenging to distinguish ourselves in an increasingly crowded world. That's why many find it difficult to push themselves to grow.

However, as they say, 'Where there's a will, there's a way.' It's not impossible to improve yourself, but it is challenging and requires a lot of effort. The effort you invest today will yield a worthy reward in the future. I've found self-improvement challenging, but that doesn't mean I never try.

Strategies for Self-Improvement

If improving yourself seems too daunting, consider these options:

Leave improvement and be content with what you are. Set small, realistic goals and work towards achieving them. Post your progress publicly so you can be held accountable.

One of the best ways to stay on track is by committing publicly to your goals. It's essentially a form of accountability that can push you to stay focused.

My Own Commitment

I was just pondering how I could post my steps to improve myself when I found this platform. So, I commit here that I will try my best to achieve:

A 99th percentile score in JEE Mains 2025 as a dropper, to get a seat in MNNIT Allahabad or IIIT Allahabad CSE. 170 marks in JEE Advanced 2025, to get a seat in IIT Mandi CSE.

I have some strategies that will help me save time until I'm satisfied with my efforts:

Complete mock tests and set regular targets. Avoid playing volleyball after 7 PM until I find something satisfactory in my efforts. Attend lectures and catch up on backlogs from PW Prayas 1.0 Batch. Quitted my overthinking habit on 16th July 2024. Go to the library regularly from 21st July 2024. Start staying away from distractions from 22nd July 2024. Eliminate bad habits and adopt productive habits on 23rd July 2024, my 17th birthday.

Remember, it's never too late to start being accountable for your progress. Leave a comment with a time-consuming activity you can leave or a productive one you can adopt to improve your productivity.

Conclusion

I hope you found this post helpful. Let's support each other in our journey towards self-improvement!

Thank you!
