However, DIA was built far east of town partially so that it would NOT be near residential neighborhoods. Instead, it was developed mainly on former farm and ranch land. The former airport site, Stapleton, now renamed Central Park, has been developed into a large and diverse area with many different types of homes, schools, shopping, and other support functions. It is about 15 minutes from both DIA and Downtown Denver.
