Navigating the Path to Healing: The Role of Psychologists and Psychiatrists

Have you ever felt the need to be treated by a psychologist or psychiatrist? The answer to that question would be yes. I actually see both. It's important to understand the unique roles of a psychiatrist and a therapist and how they work together to help you heal from your past experiences. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can prescribe medication to treat various mental health conditions, while a therapist can help you work through your problems through various therapeutic techniques.

If you see a psychiatrist and they consider prescribing medications, I highly recommend undergoing a DNA swab to determine which medications are most effective for your specific DNA makeup. Otherwise, you'll be a guinea pig until you find the right medication for you. Additionally, I recommend seeing a therapist alongside a psychiatrist; their practices can work in conjunction to help you heal from what has hurt you. However, you must be willing to put in the work. Take a step further and commit to self-improvement, even if some of the work can be very challenging. The effort is absolutely worth it in the end.

A Personal Journey to Mental Health

I see my psychologist about once a month now, having originally attended weekly and bi-weekly sessions. My psychiatrist and I communicate on the phone every 4 to 6 weeks for a medication review and check-in. This consistent and structured approach has been crucial in managing my mental health.

Using Professional Help: Two Special Occasions

Each individual has moments when professional help is essential. I had two special occasions where I turned to a therapist. The first situation was when I was in intense passion during the prepping stage for flipping properties. A year and a half of dedication and hard work culminated in failure as I found no properties. Staying in a stagnant situation, with no progress and socializing challenges, led to a complete loss of motivation and depression. After seeking the help of a therapist, the thought of looking for properties in another city four hours away came to me, and I successfully found what I needed, dispelling my feelings of stagnation.

Another occasion was living in LA during 2020, where I encountered a tumultuous environment of angry, rude, and entitled individuals, resulting in an overwhelming loss of happiness. Turning to a virtual therapist was a game-changer in helping me regain my composure.

And so, the Journey Continues...

Living with mental health issues isn't easy, but staying the course is crucial. As human beings, we are constantly evolving, and so are our mental challenges. Our minds often punish us harshly for making poor decisions. This is where therapists step in to help us work through and solve our challenges. To achieve self-evolution, you must be comfortable with both professions and willing to invest time and effort into your mental health.
