Navigating Your Career: Finding Your Passion and Choosing Your Path

Introduction

If you are 18 or older, you should have begun thinking about your career path. However, if you haven't come up with any answers, consider that you might be spending most of your time staring at the screen on your smartphone. The key is to get a job, even if it's not your dream job. If you don't like it, switch to a different one. I don’t remember how many jobs I had by the time I was 21, but I learned a lot about a lot of different things. Eventually, I realized that being on my feet all day left me aching, and I decided I wanted a desk job.

Explore Different Opportunities

I obtained my desk job by going to college, where I worked full and part-time jobs to pay my way through. You won’t figure out anything by not having a job. Think of it like paying your dues, which is exactly what it is. Get as much exposure to as many different things as possible. I firmly believe that there is something out there for almost everyone that will in some form help them achieve their desires. All they have to do is be exposed to enough “things” until they find it.

Discover Your Strengths and Interests

To determine what you want to be, you need to discover what you do best and enjoy the most. Develop a plan to be that person. You may want to read Personal Brand Planning for Life, which is available on Amazon. I have many passions and interests, but I struggled to choose a career for years. I ended up as a Customer Service Agent at a call centre, and despite its pros and cons, the job suits my needs, allowing me to succeed and get up every day feeling motivated.

Seek Professional Guidance

If you don’t already know what your passion is, you may not have one—yet. If you’re really struggling to find the right career path, consider seeking career counseling. A career counselor can administer various tests to help you identify interests and skills. For instance, if you’re bad at math, you probably won’t excel in accounting. There are several personality and skill assessments that can help point you in the right direction.
