Why Does My Mom Always Side with My Brother Even When He's Wrong? Navigating Unfair Treatment
It seems like my experience mirrors that of so many others: your mother often sides with your sibling, even when it's clear that your brother is in the wrong. This raises the question of whether it might be a manifestation of narcissistic behavior on her part. Alternatively, she might feel envious because you are doing better than your brother, feeling that you owe him something to balance the scales. While these are just speculations, extensive research and observations support the idea that such dynamics aren't uncommon.
However, if you find yourself in such a situation, perhaps the best approach would be to avoid engaging with her. The severity of the situation will determine whether you should actively engage or distance yourself to avoid exacerbating the issue.
Maintaining Relationships with Siblings: Long-Term Benefits
Considering the future, it's wise to foster a good relationship with your brother. In 30 years, your sibling could bring either joy or sorrow into your life. I've witnessed this firsthand in my family, and having a positive relationship with your sibling now can ensure support and companionship in the future.
The Three Approaches to Conduct and Behavior in Life
To navigate such challenges, you can adopt one of three approaches to conduct and behavior in the world:
1. Being Bad
In this approach, you prioritize gratification over right and wrong. You might react in ways that harm others without considering the consequences. This approach can be addictive and harmful, especially if you start doing wrong to those who haven't wronged you. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this way of living.
2. Being Nice
Here, your sole intention is to please others, neglecting your own feelings and emotions. While this might seem sufficient in the short term, it can lead to exhaustion and a sense of non-existence. Over time, people may take you for granted, unaware of your sacrifices. Thus, it's not a sustainable or advisable approach.
3. Being Good
The best approach is to be good. This involves enriching your intellect with the right kind of knowledge, which you can gain through reading scriptures. With an enriched intellect, you can distinguish right from wrong. When faced with injustice, you can confidently oppose it. However, it's important to do so with a clear mind and not harbor negativity. Instead, explain to the person how you feel and show your disapproval by ignoring them if they continue to behave badly. This approach will likely lead to the desired change in behavior.
Mindset and Positive Thinking
Lastly, remember that only your thoughts attract your circumstances. Fill your mind with positive thoughts and pray to God for a change in the behavior of your mother and brother towards you. God listens to sincere prayers, and a positive attitude can help bring about a positive change.
In summary, navigating the complex dynamics of parent-child relationships and sibling interactions requires careful thought and action. Whether it's avoiding engagement, fostering positive relationships, or adopting a good approach to life, each step can contribute to a healthier and more balanced environment.
