My Journey with Piercings: Reasons, Methods, and Healing
Ever wondered about ear piercings and personal experiences? My journey with piercings has been a unique one, filled with thoughts, methods, and evolving preferences. Let's take a look at why I decided to pierce my ears, the methods I used, and how they healed over time.
Background and Initial Piercings
Ear piercings have been a part of human culture for centuries, but my personal experience began long before any trend waves. I never had my ears pierced, but I did have both nipples pierced, though I had to remove them due to discomfort. Interestingly, my friend Phil suggested that I should get my ears pierced, but it never happened.
Phil's Piercing in 1975
In 1975, my friend Phil pierced my left ear. Since then, I've worn an earring or stud on and off, occasionally going for a year or two without wearing one. However, the piercing has never fully closed, sometimes needing a bit of force to insert the jewelry. This experience has taught me the importance of selecting appropriate jewelry and care in ear piercing.
Self-Piercing in 2023
A couple of weeks ago, I decided to pierce my right ear at home. While ear piercings are no longer seen as indicators of gender or sexuality, my motivation was more about achieving symmetry. My particular obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), as I call it, compelled me to ensure both ears match. The piercing is healing well, giving me the desired symmetry.
Additional Piercings and Navel Piercing
Using the same equipment, I also pierced my navel, which is also healing well. While I'm not in the market for a navel piercing, I realized that perhaps a longer bar would have been better. I also pierced one of my trouser sites a few years ago, resulting in no problems, only amusement, interest, and pleasure to others.
Reasons for Getting Piercings
For others, the reasons for getting piercings can vary widely. Some people just want them because they like how they look, while others make strategic decisions based on inspiration from friends or idols. For example, one person got their ears pierced as an early birthday gift from their mother. Another has over a dozen piercings, including a triple helix and a rook, driven by admiration for a friend and a favorite idol.
Personal Experience and Healing
I got my left ear piercing and have three lobe piercings in each ear. Having pierced my right ear myself, the experience was challenging but rewarding. The navel piercing also healed well. Personal preferences and standards for beauty and self-expression continue to evolve, and piercings play a significant role in shaping our bodies and identities.
Overall, the process of getting piercings is a combination of personal preference, cultural influence, and individual experience. Whether it's a simple lobe piercing or a more complex helix piercing, the journey is unique for each person.
