My Journey to the SAT: From 1050 to 1460 and Beyond

Like many students, my first attempt at the SAT was not my best. I started my SAT preparation in my sophomore year with a score of 1000-1050. After a few months, I improved to 1050-1100. However, my reading section was particularly weak, with scores below 400.

Overcoming Weaknesses

To overcome this, I worked closely with a tutor. My scores gradually improved, and by my junior year, I was consistently scoring between 1200-1250 on practice tests. This improvement was due to the extra time and effort I dedicated during my senior year, especially with the added motivation from the coronavirus pandemic.

Final Scores and Experiences

My final SAT scores were as follows: Reading 520-550, and Math 780-800, resulting in a composite score of 1300-1350. I also scored a 1440 on my first attempt, but regretfully missed a few questions, resulting in a 1300-1350 on the actual test.

Personal Insights and Methods

While I have never taken the SAT myself, I have had the privilege of supporting many students over the years. My students have achieved impressive scores such as 1560 in October 2018 and 1530 in December 2018 for the full test. Another student scored a 1390 in their first attempt after a month of preparation, with separate sub-scores of 620 for English and 770 for Math.

Tips and Testimonials

One of my experiences that stands out is with my son, whom I homeschooled. He achieved perfect scores on his SAT, ACT, and three SAT II tests, without any preparation. His scores reflected his mastery of academic skills, and we applied the same method used in our test prep business, serving students nationwide.

My son now teaches test-taking strategies to students, leveraging the methods he learned from me and enhancing them with his own insights. This method has been instrumental in helping countless students achieve their best on the SAT and other standardized tests.

Conclusion

The journey to the SAT is a long and often challenging one, but with the right preparation, dedication, and the application of effective methods, achieving your desired score is well within reach. Whether it's through tutoring, self-study, or leveraging your own unique strengths, the key is to stay committed and believe in yourself.
