My Best Experiences at GITAM Vizag: Scenic Journeys, Academic Oasis, and Beyond

Located in Vizag, GITAM (Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management) offers a plethora of experiences that shape the academic and personal growth of its students. From scenic rides along the coast to a vibrant campus life, this article explores some of the best experiences I had during my time at GITAM Vizag.
Scenic Journeys: The Stretch
The commute from Appughar to GITAM is not just a daily routine but a journey in itself. Spanning 7 kilometers along the sea shore, it offers breathtaking views of the sparkling blue sea and the lush green hills. The journey varies each day based on the time of day, the changing colors of the sky, and the shifting sea shades. Regardless of the weather, seasonal changes, or traffic, the ride always feels fresh and beautiful.
During my time at GITAM, I traveled to the college by auto rickshaw, bike, and car. I never felt the need to fill the 15-20 minutes of travel time by looking at my phone, watching videos, or listening to music. The scenery was always new and beautiful, and the sound of the sea and the wind remained audible even in heavy traffic. Occasionally, I would close my eyes and immerse myself in the experience, knowing that these rides would be few and precious.
The ride along 'The Stretch' is an adventure that speaks to the soul, providing a sense of freedom and tranquility. Despite the daily trek, it never felt burdensome because each journey was an enchanting experience.
Academic Oasis: KRC and Beyond
It's important to note that my experience with GITAM Bangalore was quite different. The lack of support from faculty, poor infrastructure, overpriced hostels, dearth of placements, and lack of freedom made it a challenging college experience. However, GITAM Vizag offered a completely different vibe and environment.
The highlight of my time at GITAM Vizag was the library known as 'Knowledge Resource Centre' (KRC). KRC is a vast library known for its comprehensive collection of research journals, scientific papers, and books. From textbooks to reference materials, every need for academic pursuit was fulfilled. The digital library provided access to numerous renowned scientific and research journals, making it a true source of knowledge. Additionally, the KRC was open till 11 o'clock in the evening, with free bus services at 8 PM and 11 PM, ensuring that students could access the library even after a long day of study.
For those who enjoyed extracurricular activities, GITAM Vizag offered an array of sports facilities. Playing football, cricket, basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, or even hitting the gym was a regular part of our routine. After a long day of intense work, engaging in sports brought immense relief and helped in releasing stress. The campus was also home to several affordable canteens and eateries, providing a variety of dining options.
Adventure and Growth: From Fresher to Farewell
At GITAM Vizag, everyone had a role to play. From bunks filled with classmates embarking on their academic journey together to the nightmarish campus 'GUSAC' which houses all the geeks, the atmosphere was a unique mix of academic rigor and camaraderie. It's true that you might hate being in GITAM while you're there, but once you leave, you realize the significant void it leaves in your life.
Mentorship and support were instrumental in my growth at GITAM. I gained confidence and discovered my passion for dancing through the support of fellow GITAMites during Kalakrithi. Kalakrithi was one of the most memorable experiences, as it provided a platform to showcase our talents and creativity. The nurturing environment of GITAM allowed me to explore my diverse interests, which is a testament to the university's comprehensive approach to education.
In conclusion, if you are considering GITAM Vizag, you should definitely give it a shot. The journey from Appughar to GITAM is an adventure that you won't forget, and the KRC, along with the sports facilities and the myriad of extracurricular activities, create an environment where you can thrive academically and personally.
