Mumbai Police: My Experiences and Frustrations in Reporting a Fraud

Experiences and Frustrations with Mumbai Police: Reporting a Fraud

Over the past few years, I have had several encounters with the Mumbai police, both positive and negative. However, my recent experience reporting a fraud case at the Koparkhairne police station left me deeply disappointed and frustrated. In this article, I will share my personal experience and discuss the challenges one may face when dealing with the Mumbai police.

Finding a Partner on OLX

It was a week before the Detailed Audit Event (DAE) at my college when I came across a tempting offer on OLX. A seller was advertising a brand-new mobile phone for a price lower than what was available in local markets. Intrigued, I contacted the seller and made a payment of 15,000 Indian rupees via a PayTM transaction. The seller claimed that the phone would be delivered to my address after the DAE, as it was his turn to deliver items to the campus.

The Shocking Reveal

To my disappointment, the seller did not show up to deliver the phone even after multiple follow-ups. I tried to reach him through various means, but all attempts failed. Realizing that I had been cheated, I decided to file a complaint at the Koparkhairne police station. Unfortunately, my experience there was far from satisfactory.

Dealing with the Police

I visited the police station on a weekday evening, hoping to find an officer who could help me. I waited patiently in the queue, but as soon as my turn came, the officer's attitude was dismissive and disrespectful. He asked me rudely, 'What happened to you, boy? Why are you here?' I explained my case, but the officer interrupted with, 'Why the fuck did you buy things from online? We won't entertain complaints from OLX. Get out from here.'

This incident left me feeling helpless and betrayed. I realized that the police were not willing to help me recover my money, despite the allegations of fraud.

Trust in the Mumbai Police

My experiences with the Mumbai police have shattered my trust. There have been numerous reports of police corruption in Mumbai, and my interactions with the Koparkhairne police station have only reinforced my belief that the police force is corrupt. I have encountered instances where non-Marathi individuals are treated like animals, and I have seen police officers giving undue preference to Marathi citizens.

Conclusion and Call for Action

I am seeking help and guidance on how to recover my lost money. I have the seller's phone number, PayTM number, and a snapshot of his Aadhar card. Furthermore, the seller mentioned that he was from the army, although I am not sure if it is the truth. Can anyone guide me on where I should lodge a complaint if the police are not willing to help?

My advice to all those looking for help from the Mumbai police is to be cautious. While there may be some officers who genuinely want to help, there are many others who are more interested in their personal gains than in serving the public. If you find yourself in a similar situation, do your own research and seek alternative methods to recover your losses.

Overall, my experiences have taught me that the Mumbai police are at best unreliable and at worst corrupt. It is time for a change in the system and for the public to hold the authorities accountable.
