Lockdown: A Double-Edged Sword - Happiness and Boredom in Confined Spaces

During the lockdown period, many turned their attention to the effects of this significant change in our daily lives. For some, it brought a sense of tranquility and togetherness with family, while for others, it became a source of immense boredom. Today, we explore both the positive and negative aspects of lockdown, focusing on how it affected families and daily routines.

Happiness Amidst Confined Spaces

For many working as housewives or caregivers, lockdown brought an overwhelming sense of togetherness. As an example, a housewife noted, 'Permanent people': During lockdown, I am living with permanent people who are now my family 24/7. Everyone is at home with their loved ones, and parents are not going to work. This has provided a unique opportunity for family bonding.

No Social Competition

With less social interaction, there was a reduction in social media drama. 'Due to lockdown no one is going outside,' she explained. 'That means fewer posts showing off what they are doing, where they are going, what they are eating, and whom they are with. Less competition for social media followers and less social media drama.'

Tension-Free Existence

There was a sense of relief from daily stressors and anxiety. 'Now-a-days no one is getting worried about the certain things of their family or about their future,' she mentioned. 'Everyone is worried about corona, nothing else. Tension-free life with family has been a gift during this lockdown.'

No Women Gossiping

The absence of women networking in public spaces brought a new level of comfort. 'As everyone is at home there is no gossiping in the society. They are living in their home unable to judge others about their way of living, ' she pointed out. This provided a break from the usual societal judgments and gossip.

No Pressure

For those who are aspiring or preparing for exams, the lockdown brought a respite from constant pressure. 'Being an aspirant there is no pressure at all for sometime,' she shared. 'No one is asking about prepartion about exam, about result, about career and about what will you do in future. Peace during this time was a blessing.'

No Relatives Coming

Another major relief was the absence of relatives and family functions. 'Due to lockdown everyone is sitting at their home. No relatives are coming at home and inquiring about my future, no family function and no social gathering,' she remarked. This provided a safe and comfortable environment for all.

The lockdown brought a return to simpler times, allowing families to relive their childhoods. 'Only due to lockdown I am once again living my childhood without being worried. I am eating, sleeping, playing ludo, carrom, childhood indoors games, watching television, childhood shows Ramayan, Shaktimaan, Mahabharat, circus, studying without pressure,' she reminisced. This period brought back memories and joy.

Healthy Food

The absence of outside food sources led to an increase in home-cooked meals. 'Due to lockdown I am unable to order or to eat junk food like burger, pizza, noodles, chilli potato... only eating healthy home cooked food,' she observed. This shift towards healthier eating habits was a positive change.

More Connected on Social Media

Despite physical distancing, the lockdown brought people closer through social media. 'I think in this lockdown or social distancing people are connected more on social media. They are talking, replying, sending single message in groups, doing audio and video calls to their loved ones, friends, relatives,' she noted. This increased connectivity helped maintain relationships despite physical separation.

More Aware about Health

The heightened awareness about health and hygiene was a valuable lesson during the lockdown. 'Due to lockdown and corona virus I am more aware about health. Taking care of hygiene and aware about family health. Now a days more aware about news and whats going on around. Used to aware about my nearby people about not to go outside and stay at home,' she summarized. This period taught valuable lessons about health and safety.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the lockdown brought both happiness and boredom, but overall, it provided a unique opportunity for families to bond and reflect. While it may not have provided the usual excitement of travel or social events, it did offer a chance for introspection, connection, and healthier living.
