LinkedIn Messenger Read Receipts and Typing Indicators Explained
As of my last update in August 2023, LinkedIn does not offer a read receipt feature for InMail messages or standard messages. This means that, unfortunately, there is no way to know definitively if the recipient has read your message.
However, it is reassuring to note that LinkedIn respects user privacy by not offering such a feature. If you are looking to enhance your communication strategy on LinkedIn, consider following up with recipients if you haven't received a response after a reasonable time.
Is There a Read Receipt Feature for LinkedIn InMails?
When it comes to InMails, there is no built-in read receipt option. The only indicators available to the sender are:
Whether the recipient has accepted or declined the message If the recipient sends any form of reply, either accepting or declining, or providing feedbackThese are the only signals that suggest the recipient has at least engaged with the message.
If you are using InMails frequently and find this limitation to be a concern, consider adding a follow-up message requesting feedback or engagement.
Read Receipts and Typing Indicators in LinkedIn Messenger
In contrast, LinkedIn Messenger does have read receipts and typing indicators. By default, these features are turned on, providing real-time feedback during conversations.
Read receipts: These display when a message has been read, ensuring you know when the other party has had the chance to review your message. Typing indicators: These show when the other person is actively typing a response, allowing you to know they are currently engaging in the dialogue. These features can be turned off if you prefer to keep your interactions more private. To toggle these features on or off:
Click the Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage. SelectSettings Privacy from the dropdown. Click Communications on the left and select Messaging experience. Under the Messaging experience section, click Change next to Read receipts and typing indicators. Turn the toggle on or off as desired.Note that these features are gradually rolled out and may not be available to everyone at this time.
In conclusion, while LinkedIn Messenger offers more advanced communication features, it's always a good practice to follow up if you don't receive a response or feedback after a reasonable period. Keep your communication strategy versatile and adaptable to the platform you are using.
