Is There Peace in Your Home?
Often, the idea of home peace evokes visions of tranquility and harmony. However, the reality can vary greatly, especially in a household with diverse personalities involved.
Home Peace with Strong Personalities
For many, the concept of domestic peace might invoke images of serenity. In my experience, peace in my home is more nuanced. Yes, most of the time, there is harmony, mainly due to the strong yet manageable personalities within my family.
The Impact of New Members
Defining peace can vary based on one's perspective. For example, if peace includes the entire property, not just the main residence, then the answer is yes. However, my home is certainly not as quiet as it once was, especially with a young family member joining our mix.
Home Decor Alterations
Several dozen decors have shifted in my home, reflecting the different tastes and aesthetics of my spouse. Some cherished items have been moved, and this certainly disrupted the old order. However, the inclusion of new tastes and styles doesn't necessarily detract from the overall peace. As long as some cherished elements, like the old wingback chairs around the fireplace, remain, the transition is smooth.
Peace Amidst Activity
While the quiet of the past is a thing of the old, the current atmosphere in my home is way more lively. There are flower gardens, the vibrant colors of which I wholeheartedly approve. Additionally, baby-related activities, such as a play fort being built, can be a bit disruptive. Despite the noise and activity, this liveliness brings an undeniable happiness and warmth to our home.
Personal Reflections and Plans
Sitting on my patio with a glass of Redemption whiskey and my second cigar of the day, I can enjoy the comfort and familiar surroundings of my home, despite not seeing my wife at that moment. The sound of my stepson joyfully digging in the backyard serves as a reminder that he is happily engaged in his play. His belief in the existence of gold underscores a vivid imagination, but I'm glad he finds joy in such self-directed activities. As I write this, I imagine the potential for a fish pond in the exact location he's playing, perhaps even with koi. If only the weather were a bit sunnier; it has been cloudy and rainy for the past two weeks.
Conclusion
While the noise and activity have unquestionably disrupted the old image of peace, it’s clear that the presence of loved ones and the vibrant, lively atmosphere of shared experiences have transformed my home into a place of peace in a different sense. Despite its noisiness, my home is now a much merrier and comforting place. And as for the promise of future peace, it might lie in designs such as a fish pond, where wildlife and natural beauty can coexist.
