How to Write a Collaborative Document on Google Docs

Google Docs offers a comprehensive collaboration feature that has proven invaluable during our current remote working lifestyle. Its intuitiveness and efficiency make it an excellent choice for group projects, allowing team members to work together in real-time, regardless of location.

Setting Up Your Collaboration

Follow these easy steps to set up your Google Docs collaboration:

Select the file you want to share: Click on the Share button. Under Share with People and Groups, enter the email address you want to share with. Note: If visitor sharing is enabled in your organization, you can invite users without Google Accounts to collaborate on your Google Drive files and folders.

To change what people can do to your file, choose from the following permissions:

Viewer: Can only view the document. Commenter: Can comment and suggest changes but cannot edit. Editor: Can make changes and edits to the document. If you want to notify people that you have shared the file with them, check the Notify people box. Each email address you enter will be included in the notification email. If you do not want to notify people, uncheck the Notify people box.

Click Share or Send to confirm the settings and complete the sharing process.

Creating Your Document

To create a new document, spreadsheet, or presentation, follow these steps:

Sign into Google Docs. A new window will open with your document in it. You can start working on your collaborative project right away. Click on the Share button in the upper right-hand corner to start collaborating. Utilize the comments feature to easily see who is making suggestions and track changes. This ensures everyone is on the same page and no suggestions are overlooked.
