How Writing Changed My Life as a Costume Designer
Writing has long been a part of my life, primarily as a passion, but over the years, it has evolved and significantly impacted my professional journey.
The Journey Begins in College
My story as a writer started in my final year of college. It was a compilation of random blog entries on a platform I had just launched. One day, I was going for an interview at a mall in Guwahati, Assam. The interviewer asked me about my writing, which I had mentioned in my resume. To his surprise, I started narrating some of the stories from my blog, the titles, and content fresh in his mind.
One of the questions was, 'Can you share the name of one of your stories and a brief synopsis?' I shared a story titled 'Butterfly's Journey,' which was a powerful narrative about self-discovery and perseverance. He wrote down the title and the synopsis without flinching, which left a lasting impression on me.
After the interview, he informed me that I was selected for the role. Before the hiring process was complete, he asked us to join immediately. However, I was still in college, and I could not afford to miss classes, as my college had strict attendance policies unless it was for medical reasons. I decided to seek help from the person who conducted the interview, the boss.
The Power of Writing
My friend and I went to the boss to explain the situation. The boss, to our relief, remembered the stories I had mentioned during the interview. He asked us, 'Do you remember the story and the blog mentioned during the interview?' I couldn't hide my smile, and he simply said, 'Yes, I remember.'
When we explained the situation, he seemed to think for a moment and then agreed to let us discuss it further. He ended the conversation by saying, 'You are the blogger, aren’t you, Butterfly? I remember you and your stories.' His words struck a chord with me, and I felt a sense of pride that I would always recall this moment fondly.
Professional Milestones
Over the years, my writing journey has led me to new heights, and not just in the realm of storytelling. Recently, the vice principal of my school complimented me on one of my stories. It was a significant moment, as it showcased the recognition I have gained through my writing. I still have the archived WhatsApp chat message, which serves as a reminder of how far I have come.
Writing has not only provided me with a platform to express myself but has also opened doors to new opportunities. It has transformed from a hobby into a professional asset, helping me build a portfolio and establish credibility in my chosen field.
Conclusion
In conclusion, while writing hasn't drastically changed my life yet, I believe it will. The recognition and validation I have received through my writing have been invaluable, and they continue to shape my professional pursuits. My journey as a writer has been enriching, and I am excited to see where it will take me next.
