This piece is inspired by discussions with two dedicated careworkers—one from the prison service and another from a hospice/palliative care center.
A Prisoner's Unexpected Kindness

Amidst Terminal Illness: A Last Wish Fulfilled
From the years spent at a hospice/palliative care center, Workers Author garnered a profound understanding of the relentless fight against terminal illness. Despite being emotionally exhausting, there were instances that brought a wave of positivity to their work.
One notable example involved the admission of a 14-year-old boy from a remote village near Hyderabad. He was admitted for palliative radiation to manage his severe body pains. Although the hospice did not admit children, an exceptional case was made to support this young boy. His last wish was to meet his favorite movie star. Recognizing the challenge, Workers Author reached out to Make A Wish Hyderabad to help. Within a week, the Make A Wish team organized an entire day with the movie star, Prabhs, a well-known and admired personality for their gentle demeanor.
On the day, a Make A Wish volunteer picked up the family and spent the day with Prabhs, fulfilling the boy's dream. Despite being busy, Prabhs spent the entire day with the children, ensuring it was not just a photo opportunity but a genuine engagement. The boy's request to keep the experience private was respected, with pictures and information not being shared publicly.
This small act of kindness by Workers Author and the organization touched a deep chord, reminding them that even in the most challenging environments, the smallest effort can make a significant difference. The gratitude expressed by the family, especially the boy, not only lifted their spirits but reaffirmed the importance of their work.
