Understanding the Humor in Horse Behaviors
Ever owned a horse that exhibited the cutest and craziest behaviors? If you have, you're in good company. I had a beautiful paint horse that I purchased as a 6-month-old, who often thought he was more of a child than a horse. From checking tools to splashing water, these funny behaviors add a unique charm to horse ownership.
Fun Roaming and Dipping Adventures
One of the funniest episodes involved a fond memory about one of my horses who loved to play in the water trough. On a sweltering summer day, I noticed my horse's head submerged deep in the trough. Thinking it might be a sign of low water levels, which could mean the auto fill wasn't working, I headed to check. To my surprise, the water was full as usual, but my horse had his head up to his eyes, immersing himself in the water. I wasn't sure what he was doing - drinking or perhaps playing - as I'm not entirely certain if a horse could drown that way. But my horse was the only one I ever saw behave so oddly in the water.
Real-Life Farce and Technical Mishaps
Another hilarious scenario was when this horse would playfully pull out pins from the gates, allowing him and a group of friends to take a stroll along Cozy Lake Road. His antics didn't just end there. He had a knack for stealing tools out of back pockets, much to the dismay of nearby humans. Furthermore, he would stubbornly lift his head too high, making it difficult for me to properly fit his bridle. This led to riding him on a halter instead, which wasn't ideal.p>
The Master of Mischiefs
There was a particular horse we called Cheyene, who was indeed the jack-of-all-trades when it came to horse pranks. He was known for his explosive water splashing tricks. When I attempted to fill the water trough, he would suck in the water up to his eyes, causing a cascade of water to spray everywhere, even hitting the electric fence and giving it a massive shock in the process. That particular day, he had a good laugh, but the incident warranted a swift retreat.
Lost Heartsong, Lost Horses
Over the years, Cheyene was my constant companion, or rather, my "heartsong". Riding him was magical, but it still hurts even now that he's gone. His loyalty and humor made every day a bit more bearable, and he'll always hold a special place in my heart.
These funny horse behaviors, although slightly troublesome at times, create unforgettable memories and a sense of joy. If you've had a similar experience with your horse, I'd love to hear about it. Share your funny horse stories in the comments below!
