Enduring Mobile Games and Their Evolution Over Time
Mobile gaming has evolved significantly over the past decade, but some games stand the test of time. This article looks at two mobile games that I have played for five years or more: Underworld Empire and Trailer Park Boys Greasy Money. Additionally, two card games with PC ports, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links and Hearthstone, are also discussed.
A Long-Standing Love Affair with Underworld Empire
Underworld Empire was released in 2012 and I started playing around 2013. Despite the fact that I feel rather weary of the game, I find it challenging to stop playing due to my significant investment of time. Over the years, it has become a part of my daily routine, and abruptly quitting suddenly feels unusual.
Trailer Park Boys Greasy Money: Near Its Five-Year Mark
Trailer Park Boys Greasy Money is another long-standing mobile game that I have played for almost five years. Just like Underworld Empire, it has become cumbersome and is now almost borderline a pay-to-play game. Despite the tediousness of the game, I am still heavily invested in it and continue to play it regularly.
Card Games with PC Ports
Not all of these games are strictly mobile, as two games, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links and Hearthstone, also have PC ports. These games offer the best of both worlds, allowing players to switch between platforms with ease.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links (2016)
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links, released in November 2016, is a spin-off of the beloved Yu-Gi-Oh! card game. It brings an anime-inspired twist, featuring special abilities and the ability to play as anime characters. The card pool is continually expanding, and it has the potential to include nearly every card available, making it an intriguing game for both casual and hardcore fans.
Hearthstone (2014)
Hearthstone is another collectible card game that was released in 2014. I frequently play it every other day or even daily. It offers a unique take on the card game genre, with its randomized card actions simulating online play. Although I do not enjoy playing the ranked meta, the casual gameplay and the opportunity to climb up to gold or platinum rank before leaving for the month make it a fun experience.
Transferring Data Between Platforms
Both Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links and Hearthstone allow me to easily transfer data between my PC and mobile devices. This flexibility is particularly useful when I am away from my desktop, as I can continue my progress seamlessly on my phone.
These enduring mobile games have kept me engaged for years, offering a combination of social interaction, strategy, and challenge. Whether it's the deep tactical gameplay of card games or the immersive world of Underworld Empire, these games continue to captivate me.
