Embracing the Upcoming Changes in JEE 2019 and 2020

Hello, aspiring engineers! The National Testing Agency (NTA) has made several significant updates to the JEE Main exam pattern for the years 2019 and 2020. These changes bring a mix of simplification and strategic adjustments that could benefit candidates in their quest to secure a spot in esteemed engineering colleges.

Reducing the Question Count

One of the most notable changes is the reduction in the number of questions from 90 to 75 in each paper. Despite the decrease, the exam duration remains the same at 3 hours. This change ensures that students have enough time to thoroughly evaluate each question, shifting the focus from speed to accuracy.

Each of the three sections in the JEE Main Papers (B. Tech, B. Arch, and B. Planning) will now consist of:

20 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) 5 Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions

Strategic Marking and Assessment

The marking scheme now includes a negative marking for MCQs, which is in line with the JEE Advanced exam. However, there is no negative marking for NAT questions. This change should allow students to take calculated risks with NAT questions, thereby maximizing their overall score.

For the B. Planning paper, the format will include:

Mathematics section of 100 marks with 20 questions Aptitude Test section similar to B. Arch with 25 questions Planning-based objective questions with 50 marks and 25 questions

To further ensure fair evaluation in case of a tie, candidates with fewer incorrect responses will receive an advantage. This adjustment aims to reward those who maintain accuracy throughout the exam, reflecting a balanced approach.

Preparing for the Future with JEE Main 2020

As of September 4th, the JEE Main exam will consist of 75 questions and will be evaluated for a total of 300 marks, with the time duration remaining unchanged at 3 hours. Each section will have 25 questions, of which 20 will be MCQs and 5 will be NAT questions.

The official JEE Main examination will continue to be conducted twice a year, in January and April. Staying updated with the official website is crucial, as any changes or additional information will be posted there.

Opportunities for Further Enhancement
