Does Music Help You to Cope with Life?
Absolutely, it is my natural, non-medication, non-alcohol/drugs go-to for managing life's challenges. Music is a necessity of life, ranking alongside food, clean drinking water, and oxygen. It is an essential part of my mental and emotional well-being.
Utilizing music to lift and regulate my mood, and to deal with healing and emotions, is something I turn to regularly. It’s mine, all mine, and no one can take it from me. As a child, I found music to be an escape from the extreme violence and abuse in my life. As an adult, I continue to rely on it as a means of healing, but it also makes me feel incredibly good, which it has always done.
Music as a Key to Coping and Escapism
Music is a powerful tool that engages the entire brain and is an essential ingredient for my existence. Its ability to offer comfort, motivation, and an expression of emotions makes it a valuable coping mechanism. Indeed, music runs through my life, top to bottom and beginning to end.
My family, which loved and supported music, unearthed classical and musicals as our primary sources of entertainment. Every child was required to learn an instrument and commit to it for at least a year. I began with the clarinet at the age of 8 and enjoyed the music, the challenges, and the performances. Around 12-13 years old, I fell in love with music, and it has been my constant companion for the past 64 years.
Music as a Lifeline in Challenging Times
Much of the time, music has been a constant companion. It has helped me navigate the most challenging parts of my life and has provided the fabric of the best parts of every phase and layer experienced. Music is both tangible and intangible, capable of being performed or absorbed, covering the full spectrum of human emotions from the highest highs to the lowest lows. It can be “heard” silently in one’s mind or by thousands, both complex and simple. It soothes me and challenges me to do more.
Life’s Turbulent Journeys
Life sometimes gets extremely tough, and during those moments, music helps me survive. It is my life, my soul, my joy, and my religion, my primary connection between happiness and this crazy world we all inhabit.
Music has been a lifeline for many, offering a way to navigate life's most challenging moments. Its emotional support and ability to bring comfort make it a valuable tool in the arsenal of coping mechanisms. Whether it’s classical, pop, or something more personal, music can be a powerful ally in helping us find inner peace and resilience.
