Creating from the Heart: My Journey Through Art and Music
Once upon a time, I penned a love poem that my nephew mistook for a work by a renowned romantic poet of the nineteenth century. Unfortunately, poetry is not easily translatable. But holding onto these words in my heart reminds me of who I am: a poet, among other amazing talents that my lifelong bad circumstances have often tried to obscure.
Art Through Words and Images
I create pictures and poetry, bringing to life a person, place, or thing. Often, a new adventure or a change in my physical surroundings inspires me. Every piece I create is a reflection of my inner world, a window into the soul that drives me to express myself.
From Found Materials to Creative Soul
I am a found materials artist, and most of my creations are hats that I give away at local parades. This artistic journey is not just about the materials I use but the creative process itself. I am trying to recapture the experience from my childhood when my father made me a whistle from a palm frond. Sharing my art and this process with others is a meaningful part of my journey.
Music as an Expression of Life
The trials and tribulations of life fuel my passion for music. I have been playing the guitar for most of my adult life, starting seriously in junior high school. The stories of life, woven through the strings of my guitar, are more than just melodies; they are reflections of my emotions and experiences.
Music is a language that speaks without words. When I am sad, my playing becomes heavy with blues, reflecting the feelings within me. Conversely, when I am in good spirits, my music brims with upbeat melodies. I play what I feel, because life is what drives me. Each note, each chord, is a testament to the journey I have been through and the emotions they evoke.
If you feel this resonates, know that you are not alone in your struggles and that art, whether through words or music, can be a powerful way to express and process the trials and tribulations of life.
