A Personal Perspective
I grew up in London and was brought to Vancouver kicking and screaming when I was 15. I've never fully gotten over it. London is amazing; it's chock-full of history with the British Museum, free real art galleries, amazing shops, parks, and stunning buildings. It's alive with history.
Vancouver, on the other hand, offers very little in terms of attractions aside from a good view of the north shore mountains if it's not raining. The housing market in Vancouver skyrocketed, making it unaffordable for previous owners. The streets are filthy, and the pavements near my house are in a terrible state of disrepair, despite numerous complaints to the city.
The one art gallery in Vancouver is pretty pathetic and costs a fortune to visit. There are also homeless encampments downtown, with rampant drug use on the streets. Although Vancouver is becoming more realistic and compassionate, it still lags behind most cities in this regard.
The transit system in Vancouver is abysmal. I remain in the city mainly due to my Canadian family. I would never choose this place over London for any other reason.
Conclusion
Ultimately, whether life in Vancouver is better than in London is a highly personal decision. Both cities offer unique advantages and disadvantages that cater to different lifestyle preferences. If you believe that a vibrant, historical, and bustling city with a rich cultural life is more important to you, then London might be the better choice. However, if you prioritize natural beauty, a vibrant arts scene, and a healthier environment, Vancouver could be the city for you.
