Over the past 48 hours, the people of Penang have shown incredible unity and resilience in the face of one of the most severe flood crises in recent history. As communities continue to recover, it is crucial to continue the support for those affected. This guide aims to outline the most effective ways individuals and organizations can help aid flood victims in Penang.

Current Needs of Flood Victims in Penang

Following the devastating floods, the initial supply of food items has exceeded the immediate needs of the victims. According to ground visits, food supplies are now plentiful, and distribution efforts are under way. As we move forward, the following items are currently in high demand:

1. Cleaning Kits and Equipment

The aftermath of flooding often leaves debris, mud, and garbage behind. Essential cleaning items include:

Water jets and cleaning equipment Hoses and stiff brooms Gloves and shovels

These tools are vital for clearing waterlogged areas and restoring homes and businesses.

2. Vehicles for Rubbish and Tree Removal

After the floodwaters recede, large vehicles are needed to remove fallen trees and other debris. This activity is crucial to prevent further hazards and improve accessibility in affected areas.

3. Volunteers for Home Clean-Up

Volunteers are needed to assist in the cleaning process. Assigning tasks such as debris removal, cleaning, and repair can significantly aid the process and bring a sense of normalcy to the affected individuals.
