Are We Human Experiments: An Alarming Question Bringing Wisdom and Reflection
Have you ever wondered if you are a human experiment and didn’t know it? This thought-provoking notion is one that has crossed my mind on numerous occasions. It sounds intriguing, if not slightly alarming, to consider the possibility that we could be part of an unintentional experiment without even realizing it.
Questioning What We Consider Absurd
How much are you paid for asking absurd questions? To you, it may not seem absurd at all, but rather a burning question that your life depends upon. Let me continue with this trains of thought...
'I’m full of rage - I’m just a rat in a cage.'
Do you remember where this idea originated? It's an absurd song from years ago, often ridiculed as something one shouldn’t take too seriously. However, when we delve deeper into the truth, we realize that this line might hold more meaning than we initially perceive: if humans are part of an experiment, it’s by default and not their fault. Because, after all, everything is running on automatic, without conscious, purposeful, and directed thought grounded in understanding (wisdom).
The Role of Wisdom in Human Existence
Any researcher would acknowledge that an experimental system, biological and self-sustaining, confined within a sealed jar, would continue to function, potentially leading to extinction, should the researcher walk away. It is indeed a human fault that we live without wisdom, leading to the undesirable consequences we observe today. We are physical organisms, not robots, and we suffer, feeling uncomfortable and inventing temporary solutions (Band-Aids) for our various ailments.
In the past, a Medicine Woman knew what plants and herbs would cure you. Now, we rely on hospitals, machines, microscopes, and other advanced technologies, yet the same basic problems, such as infection, still pose a significant threat. Progress has brought convenience and comfort, but also an overwhelming amount of waste, pollution, and unnecessary wants rather than essential needs.
The Evolution of Human Existence
We've come a long way from grandma's life on a farm. Hundreds and thousands of years ago, ancient human beings were alive, surviving natural disasters like climate changes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, torrential rains, landslides, and forest fires. However, they didn’t have the burden of billions of people, millions of tons of garbage, toxic chemicals, and modern-day machinery. Instead, our ancestors used basic tools and conveniences, leading to further developments such as the wheel.
Consider the modern equivalent: the wheels on a Bugatti Veyron. Replacing four tires alone can cost twenty thousand dollars. Is this absurd? Yes, but it is an exhilarating experience to drive it at over two hundred miles per hour. Eventually, the car returns to the garage, where it sits until the next thrill is desired. While we have gained plenty of wisdom through hindsight and if-only scenarios, people are still people, and things cannot be changed merely because of that.
Wisdom and Reflection from Ancient Times
Ancient wisdom was available during ancient times, but nowadays, the idea of moving to Mars feels like a product of clever ignorance. Billionaire scientists might cheerfully leave the planet, but the rest of humanity is left to deal with the aftermath. If survival means buying citizenship in New Zealand with seven million dollars and building a bunker, should we really call it an experiment in living?
Our needs are now out of this world, yet our wants are driving us further into oblivion. It's time to reflect on our progress and ask ourselves if we are truly moving towards wisdom or if we are merely chasing the latest technological wonders at the expense of our well-being.
