Adopting Lost Cats: A Journey of Love and Rescue
Have you ever found a lost cat and kept it? This heartwarming story shows how love and compassion can change both the life of a cat and the one who rescues it. My own experience with adopting a lost cat, Christmas, illustrates the transformative power of rescue.
Rescuing Christmas
My journey with rescue cats began between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I found Christmas, a pregnant cat, who came to my door around the holiday season. One cat turned into eight, and a new friend joined the family. However, the unexpected twist came one Friday night outside a closed Walmart in Illinois. While discussing the fate of the new kittens with my cousin, a kitten raced up to me, shouting, "I have found you! I have found you!"
Upon reporting her to the police, the kitten was surprisingly confiscated and placed in a jail cell. Devastated, I bailed her out with the last 8.00 of my 20.00 reserves. I named her Honey. Honey’s story is a tale of heartwarming adventures, from her confusion to her transformation into a cherished member of our family. She lived a long, sweet life until she passed away at the age of nineteen, resting peacefully on my pillow.
The Power of Adoption
Adopting lost cats or strays can be a life-changing experience. For many cat owners, rescuing a stray becomes a life-long commitment. Several instances highlight the profound impact of adopting a lost cat:
Rescuing a Stray in Illinois: Many cat owners have faced the challenge of rescuing a stray cat. I’ve been fortunate to rescue several, with the most memorable being a friendly orange tabby. I took him to the vet for shots and a sinus infection, investing in his health and well-being.
Embers, the Stray Queen: Embers, another stray who came to me, quickly claimed her place as the queen of the home. Sadly, she is no longer with us, but her sweet personality lived on in our hearts.
Countless Adventures in Rescue: As a true cat lover, I have fostered numerous strays and rescued them from danger. Currently, I am the proud cat mom to two adorable former strays. When my home becomes too filled with companions, I turn to fostering. My local no-kill shelter is a safe haven for these cats, and I personally take in and care for any new strays that arrive. The joy of seeing a helpless stray find a new family is truly rewarding.
Current Fostering Efforts
I am currently fostering five guinea pigs who were on the verge of being abandoned, awaiting rescue. Additionally, a kitten who is half wild and another sweet adult cat have found refuge at my workplace. They all await the opportunity to find a loving home through the shelter. This ongoing effort to rescue and find homes for these animals is incredibly rewarding, and every single life that is saved is a testament to the power of compassion and love.
